What’s Actually Happening?

Tower Hamlets Council are proposing a Public Space Protection Order (PSBO, formerly known as ASBO) - Tackling dog related anti-social behaviour. This would place limits on dogs and their owners with fines of £100-£1000.

Proposed restrictions include:

  • Dogs on leads (in all public spaces in the borough)

  • Maximum number of dogs one person can take out

  • Dog exclusion areas

  • Dogs on lead by direction (dogs to be put on lead when requested by an Authorised Officer)

  • Dog fouling

Details can be found on the council website, including the full report for the proposal.

Current Progress

The proposal is now in a live public consultation process and closes Nov 6th. Please complete the consultation!

Estimated Timeline

A council petition has now closed with enough signatures to force a council debate. We think this may occur in October.

A public consultation is running and will close Nov 6th.

We expect a decision will be made on the proposal shortly after the consultation closes.

If the decision is referred to the Overview & Scrutiny Committee, it will likely delay any final decision by a couple of months.

Should people feel the decision or process were unfair, a legal challenge can be launched within 6 weeks.
